Remembering the life of Ron Kenoly

The global worship community is grieving the loss of one of its most beloved voices.

Ron Kenoly — American worship leader, gospel singer, songwriter, and one of the defining figures in contemporary Christian music — passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 81. His death was confirmed by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda, who shared the news on social media, marking the end of a life lived in heartfelt devotion to worship and service.

A Humble Beginning, A Global Impact

Born December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly’s journey to becoming a worship legend wasn’t a straight path. After finishing high school, he served in the United States Air Force in the 1960s, where he first performed music with a band. Following his service, he explored secular music for a period before making his full commitment to gospel and worship music.

It was in the early 1990s that Kenoly’s influence spread worldwide. The release of Lift Him Up With Ron Kenoly in 1992 became a breakthrough moment — the album rapidly became one of the most-selling worship recordings of its time and helped bring a vibrant, congregational style of praise music into countless churches. Songs like “Ancient of Days,” “Jesus Is Alive,” “Let There Be Praise,” and “My God Is Able” became staples in worship services across continents, from North America to Africa, Asia, and beyond.

More Than a Performer — A Worship Leader

One of the most striking things about Ron Kenoly was how he viewed his role. He didn’t see himself primarily as a performer or entertainer; he saw his calling as a worship leader — someone whose purpose was to guide others into a deeper connection with God’s presence. His longtime collaborator, Bruno Miranda, emphasized this in the announcement of Kenoly’s passing, describing him as faithful, humble, and always focused on leading people into worship rather than just singing songs.

This focus made Kenoly’s music more than just melodies to listen to; they became experiences of worship, helping generations of believers express their faith, gratitude, and reverence to God.

A Legacy That Still Sings

Beyond the charts and album sales, Ron Kenoly’s true legacy is found in the countless voices around the world that continue to sing his songs in church halls, living rooms, and quiet moments of personal worship. His influence shaped a generation of worship leaders, musicians, and everyday believers who found in his music a way to lift their hearts higher.

Tributes have poured in from worship leaders, pastors, and fans across many countries — each one reflecting how Kenoly’s songs and ministry touched their lives.

Though his physical voice is now silent, the legacy of his music and the atmosphere of worship he helped create will continue to inspire hearts for years to come.

A Life Marked by Faith

Ron Kenoly’s life reminds us that worship is more than a song — it’s a posture of the heart. He lived that truth daily, not seeking fame or applause, but aiming to lead others into genuine worship of Jesus Christ.

And while we mourn the loss of this gospel music icon, we also celebrate a life that changed the way the world sings and worships.

Rest in peace, Ron Kenoly (1944–2026).Your worship still echoes in the hearts of believers everywhere.
