What do you love about life?

Family. Friends. Money. Travel. Food. Meaningful experiences. All of these are good gifts—and there’s nothing wrong with enjoying them.
But Scripture gently redirects our hearts to something greater. Something deeper than all of it combined.
In Book of Psalms 63:3, David declares:
“Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.”
That statement is not poetic exaggeration. It is a revelation of what David discovered about God.
Why Would Anyone Say God’s Love Is Better Than Life?
At first glance, it sounds extreme.
How can God’s love be better than:
Family we cherish
Relationships we value
Food that sustains us
Experiences that shape us
David isn’t dismissing those things. Instead, he is elevating something above them all.
He is saying:
There is a love that is more secure, more satisfying, and more lasting than anything life can offer.
And that love has a name in Hebrew: chesed.
Understanding Chesed: More Than Just “Love”
The word chesed is often translated as “love” or “lovingkindness,” but it carries a far richer meaning than a simple emotion.
Chesed is:
Covenant love that does not break
Steadfast love that does not fade
Personal love that does not forget
Loyal love that does not abandon
Unconditional commitment rooted in faithfulness
It is not based on performance.
It is not affected by change.
It does not depend on worthiness.
It is God’s faithful, unshakable commitment to His people.
Why David Responded With Praise
When David understood the nature of God’s chesed, his response was immediate:
“My lips will glorify you.”
Praise wasn’t a ritual for David. It was a reaction.
He didn’t have to be persuaded to worship.
He had seen something worth worshiping.
God’s love wasn’t just another blessing—it became the foundation of his entire perspective on life.
When God’s Love Becomes the Highest Value
One of the reasons we struggle with worship today is because we often place other loves above God’s love.
But David shows us a different order:
Not that life is unimportant
But that God’s love is incomparable
When chesed becomes real to you:
Security is no longer found in circumstances
Joy is no longer dependent on possessions
Worship is no longer something you “turn on,” but something that flows naturally
Because you realize:Nothing in life can love you like God does.
A Shift in Perspective
David didn’t say God’s love is similar to life’s best experiences. He said it is better than life itself.
That means:
When life is full → God’s love is still better
When life is empty → God’s love is still enough
When life changes → God’s love remains unchanged
This is the stability that chesed brings.
Final Reflection
Take a moment to ask yourself:
What am I treating as “best” in my life?
Because whatever we define as “best” will eventually become what we worship.
David discovered something life-changing:God’s chesed is not just one good thing among many—it is the greatest reality we can ever know.
And when that truth settles in the heart, worship is no longer forced.
It becomes the only fitting response.
